Tenders were opened to-day for the loan of L 1,500,000 at four per cent placed upon the market by the Queensland Government. The total amount applied for was L 4,000,000. Tenders at LlO5 6s 6d will receive 50 per cent of the amount applied for, above that m full. (Received 7.20 p.m., March 12th.) COLONIAL WINES. The colonial Agents-General interview Sir William Vevnon Havcourt, Chancellor of the Exchequer, on Tuesday next, on the subject of the reduction of the duties on colonial wines coming into [England. Mr Holdsworth thinks it probable that a reduction will be made from 2s 6d per gallon to Is 9d. THE COLLISION NEAR MENTONE. Details to band with regard to the railway collision near Mentone show that the accident was considerable overstated at first. Only two lives were lo9t m the collision. Neither of the victims were English. THE ROUMELIAN DIFFICULTY. Constantinople, March 11. Tbe weekly returns of the Bank of England published to-day, show a total reserve m notes and bullion of £14,600,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 46 per cent. Consols remain at £101. 5 per cent 10-40 New Zealand loan £103, ex div., 4| per cent 1879-1904, ditto, £102 10s ; 4 per cent inscribed stock, £103. Hides — There is a limited demand of one farthing lower. Kauri gum has declined 10s ; best selected is now quoted at £11 10s per cwt. [Eeceived 11.45 a.m., March 12th.] THE QUEENSLAND LOAN. London, March 11. Tenders for tbe Queensland loan of £1,500,000, at 4 per cent and a minimum of £103, were opened to-day. The amount subscribed was £3,920,000. Tenderers at £105 6s 6d will receive about 50 per cent of their application, and those above that amount m full. The average of the Queensland loan is LlO5 7s 9d. (Received 1 p.m., Maroh 12th.) Mr David Hean, Manager of tbe National Bank at Auckland, who is at present on a visit here, has been appointed General Inspector of the National Bank of New Zealand. The representatives of German interests m Samoa intend shortly to interview Sir Francis Dillon Bell respecting tbe purchase of such interests. Mr Henry Samuel, a son of Sir Saul Samuel, has been gazetted Lieutenant m tbe Northumberland Fusiliers. (Received 10 p.m., Maroh 12th.) ILLNESS OF MR GLADSTONE. March 12. Mr Gladstone is at present suffering , from bronchial catarrh.
