TIMARU LICENSING COMMITTEE.

+ The first meeting of tho newly-elected Liconsing Committee was held at tho Courthouse, Timaru, ypsterday. Present — Messrs E. G. Sterickor, E. Gt. Korr, W. Evans, and W. Bush. ELECTION Otf CIIAIBMAN. On the motion of Mr Evans, seconded by Mr Btericker, Mr Kerr was unanimously elected Chairman for tho yoar. BEPOBTS BY POLICE. Tho report of Inspector Broham on the licensed houses m the district was read, and was on tho whole highly satisfactory, 'lhey had been well conducted, but since last meoting a conviction had been entered against tho licensee of the Old Bank Hotel for Sunday trading. Tho licensee (Mr Spillano), who was present, was warned to be more careful m future, but at the same time the Chairman informed him the Committee were satisfied the hotel was generally well conducted. THB BOYAL HOTEL. Mr John Morgan applied for a final transfer of the license of tho Royal Hotel from Mr Alexander White to himself. Tho police stated that the hotel had been very well conducted since Mr Morgan obtained a temporary transfer of tho license. The application was granted, tho Committee expressing their pleasure at the polico report. The Committee then adjourned.
