A young man named Allen, son of a commission agent, had both his thumbs and two fingers of his left hand blown off while handling dynamito caps not knowing what they were. A young man named Wilson, 19 years of age, na< killed near Kaitnngata by being thrown from his horse, which took fright by a sieter of deceased's handing him a tin billy. At the inquest on tho body of A. U. Woollet, chemist, of Green Island, tho evidence of tbe widow wa9 to the effect that deceased had gone to the shop during the night and mixed himself a dose rf chloral hydrate and morphia. Aa he did not seem to know what he was doing with pain, and took the medicine m a frequent and reckless manner, she took the bo.ttlo from him. As he was (hon ill she sent for a doctor and administered two emetics, but neither were effective. The medical evidence showed death to huve been caused by an overdose of morphia and chloral hydrate, and a verdict to that effect wa3 given.
