The Legislative Assembly met today, and was formally adjourned until fcbe 24th mat., by which date the Ministerial re-elections will be completed. A meeting of the Opposition, convened by Sir Henry Parkes, was held this morning, at which twenty members attended. Sir Henry was elected to the post of Leader of the Opposition by the meeting, but on entering the Chamber it waa found Sir John Robertson and his party were occupying the front Oppositionßencb.es. Sir Henry Parkes and his followers took their seats at the back of Sir John Robertson's supporters. [Received 1.15 a.m., March 3rd.] COMMITTED FOB TRIAL. Adelaide, March 2. Crooks, the late manager of the Commercial Bank of South Australia, was brought before the Magistrates to-day on a charge of having falsified the accounts of the Bank. He pleaded guiltj to certain irregularities, but not to the actual charges brought againßt him. He was finally committed for trial, bail not being aßked for. BETTING. Melbourne, March 2. Betting on the Melbourne Cup ia as follows : — lsraelite 4 to 1, Soudal 5 to 1, Minerva 8 to 1, Malua 10 to 1. COMMERCIAL. The local manager of the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, reports on the Melbourne market aa follows: — Shipping wheat has a hardening tendency, and is quoted at 4s 2d per bushel ; malting barley is steady at 3s 6d to 4s 3d ; New Zealand oats show no improvement ; feeds sorts are worth 2s 8d to 3d, while milling descriptions have a moderate enquiry at 3s Id to 3s 3d ; New Zealand oats, under bond, 2s 3d to 2s 6d.
