THE WELLINGTON RACING CLUB'S MEETING.

Wellington, Feb. 7. The second clay's racing of tbo Wellington Racing Club was held yesterday. Tho weather was very fine, but the attendance was poor. Everything passed off pleasantly, i Htjtt Pack Handicap, of 150 sots ; second horse, 20 sovb from the stakes ; j miles. Messrs Stock and Conroy's Miss Dargon, 6st 101 b (White) 1 Hon. W. Beeves' Maligner, 9st 71b (Brown) 2 Hon. J. McLean's Kubezahl, 7st 31b (Williams) 3 Salvage rushed away with the lead, followed by Marion and Maligner, m tho order named. Coming to the road Salvage gave way to Maligner, and Marion immediately took second place. Rubezahl and Mij3 Dargon also passed Salvage. As they entered tbe straight Pasha made his effort, but could not get up to the leaders, and a great race ensued all tho way home, but Miss Dargon favored with tbe light weight gradually wore down Maligner, and won by half a length. Time — lmin I7see. Dividends— lnside, £5 3s; outside, £i ss. Huedlb Handicap, of 100 boys; second horse 10 soys from the stakes ; 2 miles. Mr Dennett's Faugh-a-ballah, lOat 10lb (Lyford) 1 Mr W. Euddick's Director, lOst 101 b (Herd) 2 Mr F. Yule's The Druid, lOst 91b (O'Connor) 3 Faugh-a-ballagh went to the front, and m the first hundred yards had a clear lead of four lengths. This order was maintained for the first half-mile, all the horses going well within themselves. After getting over the hurdle at the Stand, Kaugh-a-ballagh, Director and the Druid continued on m tho order named and all fenced splendidly. Faugh-a-ballagh was first over the last obstaclo by twelve lengths and gradually increased his lead and won m the commonest of canters by twenty lengths. DividendInside, £2 4s ; outside, £2 ss. Mr P. Butler has purchased Faugh-a-ballagh and the horse ran m that gentleman's interest to-day. The price paid was £150. Local Handicap, of 100 soys ; second horse 20, and third 10 sovg from the stakes ; li miles. Mr J. Leopold's Giriri, 7st 21b (Stratford) 1 Mr Godwin's Life Buoy, Bit 101 b (Clifford) 2 Mr J. Leopold's Grand- Duke, 9st 91b (Sutherland) 3 Won rather easily by a length and a half. Time — 2tnin 19sec. Dividends — Inside £15 8s j outside, £11 6s. Wellington Racing Club's Handicap, of 300 soys ; second horse 25 soys ; and third 10 soys from the stakes ; 1 J miles. Mr H. Hill's Pasha, Bat 101 b (Sutherland) 1 Mr W. Douglas' Waitiri, Bst 31b (Woods) 2 Mr Vallance's Salvage, 7st 51b (Huxtable) 3 From a straggling start Salvage rushed to the front closely followed by Waitiri and Armourer. Coming to the road, Armourer and Waitiri closed on Salvage, and Sutherland was seen to make a forward movement on Pasha. Kubezahl was soou m difficulties and had enough of it. As the quartette swept round the top turn into the straight, Salvage had a lead of a length, Armourer dropping away fourth and giving way to Pasha. No sooner were the horses m the straight than all the whips were out, and Pasha, persevering gamely soon passed Waitiri, and collared Salvage, Waitiri also passing tho latter. The race was now at the mercy of Pasha, who won with a bit m hand by a clear length, Salvage a good third. Time — 3min 13 sec. Dividends— lnside, £& ss ; outside, £4 99. The CavAlbt Race, of 10 soys, li miles, was won by Trooper Divan's Woollman. Five others ran. . Time— 2min 283ec. Dividends — Inside and outside, £2 13s. In this raco Trooper Porter was thrown from Skobelofi and broke his arm. The Selling Race was won by Beputation (late Orphan Boy) who beat three others. Time— 2min 20see. — Inside, £2 Is ; outside, £2 2s. The horse was bought m by the owner for £50, £30 of which he has to pay to the Club. Consolation Handicap, of 50 sots j second horse 10 soys from the stakes ; 1 mile. Mr B. H. Vallance's Salvage, 7st 101 b (White) 1 Mr Hill's Rumour, Bst 101 b (Sutherland) 2 Mr D. H. Bradley's Athol Daisy, 7st 101 b (Huxtable) 3 From a grand start Salvage and Revolver were first away, with Athol Daisy on their quarters, Silence being last. Running along the back of the course Athol Daisy ran into first place, with Salvage second, Revolver third, Rumor and Ugly Buck next, Silence still last. The positions were little changed until coming into the straight, when Athol Daisy gave up premier position to Salvage, and Revolver fell away beaten. Rumor now went m pursuit of Salvage, but though she made a gallant struggle, she 'suffered defeat by a clear length. Time — lmin 48isec. Dividends -lu3ide, £3 14s j outside, £2 Bs. The amount of money put through the machines yesterday was £6822, making a total of £13,767 for tho two days.
