Alexander Lawrence, teller m the City of Melbourne Bank, was arrested by the police yesterday on a charge of embezzling £170, the property of the Bank. The accused confessed ho had embezzled altogether over £900, by manipulating the mutilated notes account. Lawrence was formerly m the Bank of New Zealand at Auckland. (Deceived 1.20 a.m., Jan. 23rd.) Sydney, Jan. 22. New Zealand wheat is quoted at 3a 8d per bushel ; Now Zealand oats, 2a 7d ; maize, oGlbs, 3s 9d ; pollard, por bushol, Is 4d ; potatoes, 55s per ton. For tho Sydney jockey Club Anniversary Handicap, to be run off next Tuesday, Tempe ia first favorite.
