GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held m the Bond Board office, on Tuesday. MEMBERS PBKBKNT. Messrs J. K'lland, E. H. Postlethwaite, W. De Ronzy, T. H. Flatman, and W. 11. Slack (Chairman). COBBBfIrONDBNCS. Correspondence was rend as follows : — From residents on the fiauiapuka Downs, asking that the Board would close the road leading from Rao's road to section No. 22541, as tlie owner of the section at the top of this road wag unknown. It was resolved that the Overseer ascertain the name of the owner. From Messrs Robertson and Langdon stating that being unable to get tennis to cart tho material from the yard, they will have to throw up the contract. From the Chief Surveyor, Cnristcburch, requesting fho Board to furnish him with o plan of reserve applied for, duly made out by an authorised surveyor, so as to enable him U> make the grant as requested. From Messrs Uarper and Co., Christcbureb, re taking land out of tho Opihi estate for making a road, as the road has been abandoned and Mv Wigley had not submitted the price he wanted. The following resolution was moved by Mr Flatman and seconded by Mr Deßenzy : — " Thnt Mr Wigley be requested to submit the price for land requirod to make tho road, as arranged with the members at the interview held on June 15th, 1885." From Mr M. Fitzgerald, asking for compensation through tho trees m the plantation being destroyed by hares. 'Ihe Board decided that lifter Mr Fitzgerald has been through the plantation m the spring tho Board will take the question of compensation into favorable consideration. From Messrs Q-. Hammond and W. Tipladdie, asking for an extension of time to complete their contract, owing to having been delayed by unforeseen circumstances. — Granted. From tho Steward of Education Reserves, acknowledging receipt of letter of 16th inst, from the Board wishing to acquire two acre» of land out of reserve No. 1191, for a. gravel pit, upon the same terms as the two acres of land out of this reserve last year. INTERVIEWS. Mr Wigley interviewed the Board re repairs needed to road leading from his station through Beautiful Valley. Left for tho Overaeor to report upon. Mr J. D. Jones nsked tho Board to rent him the reserve adjoining his property at Winchester. Kesolved — "That tho Board provide materials for fencing reserve, and Mr Jones erect the same to tho satisfaction of the Overseer, and to pay rent of 4s por aero per annum for the same." FOOTDRIDOB. Proposed by Mr Kelland, and seconded by Mr Deßenzy — " That tenders bo colled, to be m by next Board day, for a footbridge over the Kakahu river near Mr Twonaoy's." — Motion lost. ovebsebb's bepobt. The Ovorseor's report was read db follows: — " I have to report that very fair progress has been mado during the mouth with the various contracts ; the timo allowed for completion has m ono or two coses peon cxtendftd, but tho work is not very important. The following contract* have been completed since last Board day, viz : Mulverhills Boad, Pleasant Volley ;. Gutheries Road, Pleasant Valley ; blue along metal, Raukapuka. Tho work at tho Woodbury ford not having been finished m a satisfactory manner by tho contractors I had to complete it with the. day mou. The cost should be charged to the contractors and deducted from the balance m hund. I have had piles driven and a footway erected at Maori Gully, Rhubarb. Flat. I bare written to two of the owners of tho section at Belfield with the %-iow of obtaining a pieeo of. land fc-n a shingle pit. Mr Watson Willie offora four acres of land at £6 10s por acre, the Board to securolr fonco off the same. Tho owner of the section opposite i", I am told, away m the North Island, I hare therefore been, unable to.get.a reply from him yet. I have also made application to the Steward of Reserve* for two acres for a general pit on the Education reserve, near Templar's Road (Gapes' Talley' Road). 'As instructed I forwarded a tracing to the Chief Surveyor, requesting that five acres of down land should be reserved as a stone quarry for Bbad Board purposes." i • " Hammond's Hoad. — I hare inspected tho road and drain applied for by Mr Hammond.
