SUPREME COURT.

(By Tbleobaph.) Dunebix, Oct. 14. An appeal from the Commissioner of Stamps as to tho am >unt of duty payable under tho will of the late J. T. Thonißo'n (at one tinio Chief Surveyor of the colony) was before the Supreme Court to-day. The amount claimed is over £9000, and about £1000 is m dispute. The Judge said he would givo judgment, if possible, m time to allow of an appeul. Seference was made to the inconvenience of copies of the statutes passed not being obtainable. Counsel who appeared for the Commissioner of Stamps 6aid ho had not seen a copy of tho Act passed, although it had been law for six weeks. His Honor remarked that ho had not received all tho Acts, yet he saw it stated m tho newspapers that one had passed which enabled accused to give evidence. He had not, however, official information on this point. An appeal arising out of the trout prosecutions at Lake Wakatipu lately was also heard to-day. The Magistrate had dismissed an information laid by a constable on tho ground thut only an otlieer of tho Acclimatisation Society could lay an iuformation under the Trout Act. His Honor held this decision of tho Magistrate to be wrong, and granted an appeal with £10 10s costs.
