[Rbutbb's Agency.] [Reoeived 1.30 a.m., Oct. 12th.T Nbw York, Oct. 10. The death is announced, at the ago ol 75, of Cardinal Maccloekey, Archbishor of New York. The operations which have been carried on for some time past by the Marint Department, with a view to clearing East River Channel, were successfully finished to-day, when no less than nine acres of reef m which is known as Hell Gate were successfully removed by meane of dynamite. Three off coast cargoes have Wen sold, the latest of them being disposed of at 359 9.3. Holders of shipments are asking 36s f»r tho new crop. Shipments of December and January are quoted at 38*. Oct. 11. . In a speech at Blackburn Lord Derby expressed doubta as to whether the colonies would strongly care for closer relations with England .than those at present existing.
