THE TEMPERANCE MISSION.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE TIMARU HERALD. Sib,— Kindly allow mo a small space m your columns to convey my heartfelt thanks for tho valuable assistance you rendered to mo during my mission to Timaru and tho surrounding district. In all parts of tho Australian colonies and Tasmania, also m New Zealand, I haverocoived tho hcartießt support of tho Press. Permit mo also to thank my United Committee and all who assisted mo m each dopartmout of tho Mission, not omitting tho United Choir, Secretaries, and my indefatigable hon. Secretary, tho Rev. W. Gillies, to whom not only myself, but tho districts visited, aro greatly indebted for tho many admirable arrangements ho everywhere made i also Mr and Mrs Gillies, whoso kind hospitality I shared whilst m Timaru. Within the past month, 1000 persons hare signod tho pledge, whilst 1200 have received tho blue ribbon. Largo numbers of families havo reoeivod " family cards." It is my intention to systematically work every town and villngo on and off tho main line until I have finished North Canterbury, which will occupy me until tho close of tho year, I am, &c, Matthew BraNBTT.
