(By Telegraph.) ; [Per steamer at the Bluff.] Mblbocbne, Sept. 30. i The wreck of the iron steamer, Gulf of Carpentaria, as sha now lies sunk about thirty fathoms deep off Bass Strait, with cargo, etc., was sold on Saturday to John Marshall and Co., for £250. At a meeting m connection with the Gordon Memorial Fund, it was decided to accept Mrs Thornycroft's offer to repare a duplicate of the stat ue of General Gordon for Melbourne for £2500. A wrestling match, Whistler V. Miller, took place at the Theatre Royal on Saturday last, resulting m a win for Whistler by two falls to nil. The first fall lasted nearly an hour when Whistler succeeded m throwing Miller, holding him down. In the second encounter Whistler adopted his old tactics m getting hold, by which his opponent must either give m or fracture a limb. Miller preferred the former. Considerable excitement has been caused m commercial circles by tho examination into the affairs of Luke Williams & Co. m liquidation. Every precaution has been taken, m the event of an outbreak of smallpox, to have the quarantine station m order. A staff of nurses, etc., is ready. BXD2?BY. In consequence of the reappearance of Bmallpox m this city the Government have again proclaimed that all vessels arriving from the south must be examined by medical officers. Search has been made for any missing passengers of the Gungiv, a list of which have been received by the authorities. A meeting has been held m order to make preparations for the reception of Cardinal Moran on his arrival m Sydney.
