A verdict of "accidental death" was returned at the inquest of James Watts aliat George Scott, who had beea at work m a claim at Hindon during the absence of the owner, who, on returning, found him dead through a fall of earth. A middle aged woman, named Butler, was discovered on Saturday morning dead m her house with her skull fractured and other injuries. It was at first thought her death was due to the bursting of a blood vessel, but examination showed that she died from violence. No arrest has yet been made, and the Police are very reticent. Invbrcabgill, Oct. 3. A company has been formed to carry out the preliminary testa necessary to prove the capability of Bluff clay as one of the component parts m the manufacture of cement. It hos been proved that a combination of this clay and of lime alono is sufficient to form a cement up to the standard required by Government. The Company is now at work. It has purchased the necessary machinery and a lease of ground at Campbelltown, together with Thompson's patent rights, and m a fow days a sufficient quantity of cement will be ready to be tested. The Company has subscribed enough capital to carry on the preliminary work connected with the undertaking, and m the event of success it is intended to form a public company for the manufacture of cement on the ground at the Bluff. ________^__
