Tenders have been invited on behalf of the New South Wales Government for a loan of £5,500,000 at 3$ per cent. The minimum has been fixed at 91. Tenders will be opened on the 7th inst. Tlie death is announced at the age of 84 of the Earl of Shaftesbury. (Received 10 p.m., Oot. 2nd.) Tekbkifpb, Oct. 1. Tiie Nnw Zealand Shipping Company's R.M.B. Riuiutaka sailed from here for New Zealand this morning. London, Oct. 1. Consols and New Zealand securities are unaltered. The Bank rate is 2 per cent, and the market rate 1J per cent. Colonial breadstuffs and tallow are without change. The weekly returns of the Bank of England show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £12,500,000, a reduction of £1,300,000 during the week. The proportion of the reserve to liabilities is 37 per cent, being 5 per cent lower than last week's. Wool -At to-day's auotion there Was a steady but not active demand. Its s-uccess is virtually assured, and it will probably averaijo £92 ss. The bust of Sir \V. H. Hughes, of South Australia, which has been presented to the Adelaide University, has been shipped by the P. and O. steamer Kiiiaer-i-Hind. Mr Blyth, A^ent-Gfeneral for South Australia, will select a successor to Professor H. Lamb at the Adelaide University. Mr Henniker Heaton presides at a meeting of sympathisers with the Queensland Separation League, which is to be held in the City, and at whioh a Committee of twelve me to be elected to further the objects of the League.
