THE INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
(By Telegraph.) Wellington, Oct. 2. The following ia the report of the Jurors on tho wool exhibit at tho Exhibition : — Wool in bales. — Scoured merino : There ia only one bale of this class, by It. Campbell, Waitaki, and only ona bale of sconred crossbreds, by B. McCaskill, of Winchester, near Geraldine. The scouring in both classes ia exceedingly well done, and deserves common- ' daJiou, although tfia wools do not come into competition, with each other. Wool Samples — There appear to be two classes of exhibits under thia beading, viz., (1) wool grown by exhibitor*, (2) wool not grown by exhibitors ; and we are of opinion that each should be dealt with separately. We therefore report on that basis. Samples of Fleeces grown by Exhibitors. — Merino : There are three entries in this class, and competition being so insignificant we would not recommend any prize being gWen. We have, however, considered that the exhibit of Mr Cyru3 Goulter, of Dunedin, is worthy of special mention. Samples not grown by Exhibitors — Merino, Lincoln, Bomney Marsh, and crossbreds. There are but two exhibits in this class, and in our opinion they are not sufficient to merit a prize. We place the exhibit by Mr Miller, of Napier, first, and it is deserving of commendation. The collection of Romney Marsh samples grown by Mr A- Matthews, of Featherston, deserve special mention. We venture to express some surprise at the paucity of exhibits in the wool classes, and that from amongst all the wool growers of the colony so few haTe exhibited in a class representing the main product of the country. This is probably owing to the nnfaTorabSe time for collecting fleeces, the time at which the entries had to be made being between the seasons, and too late for exhibits to be collected, at laet season's shearing, and too soon for the ensuing season.
