Messrs Jonas and Bourn report as folThe scarcity of feed limits transactions m live stock, farmers having Home difficulty m carrying what they have at present. Business generally is quiet, being no doubt affected by the depressing news from Home concerning the wool market, and the continued low price for wheat. Sheepskins — Owing to the serious fall m thevalnes of wool m the Home markets, buyers were extremely cautions m their operations, and biddings lacked spirit all through the sale, and a drop of from 6d to Is per akin on previous ruling ratea occurred. Theycataloged nearly two thonsand skins, mostly full-woolled orossbreds, and there was a good attendance of buyers. They sold erossbreda at 1b 6d, Is 7d, Is 9d, 2s, 2s 3d, 2s sd, 2s 6d, 2s 10d, 3s, 3s 3d, 3s Cd, 3s lOd, and 4s ; merinos, Is 2d, Is6d, Is 7d, 2s 8d and 2s 9d ; lambs, 6d and 9d ; ba<j wool, 3Jd j fat, l£d to 13d ; hides, 2d, 2Jd, 3d, 3}d and 4Jd; horse hides, 4s to ss. Washdyke sale — There was a fair entry of stock for Thursday's sale, and a good day's business was done, few lots being turned out without a purchaser. They sold 140 fat crossbred wethers at 15s, 62 fat merino wethera at 10s 3d. 199 crossbred hoggets at 10a and 307 at 9s 9d. In cattle they sold 4 fat steers at .£8,4 fatheifera at 15s, 4at £o 10s, and 1 fat cow at £5 2s 6d, 3 well-grown steers at £2 193, 19 two-year old steers and heifers at jei 19s, and 19 at £2 2s 6d, 14 yearlings at from 15s to 255, milch cow £6 10s, and 10 pigs at 6s. Strathmore — They submitted this grand Clydesdale sire to-day to a large gathering of farmers and breeders. An opening was made by a Dnnedin breeder bidding two hundred guineas, and ten guinea bida came briskly till two hnndred and sixty guineas were offered. After some time two hnndred and Beventy followed, aDd then after a bit of hesitation a Northern gentleman bid two hundred and eighty guineas. All the auctioneer's eloquence failed to elicit a better bid, and Mr Matthews elected to hold the horse over till Show time, when no donbt a larger number of judges of Clydesdales will see this grand horse, and he will then be more likely to realise something like his value, and when ho will be poaitivcly sold.
