TEMPERANCE CONGRESS.
(By Telegraph.) Wellington, Sept. 24. At the Temperance Congress to-day tho following new delegates were present: — Rev. J. A. Luxford (Kaiapoi), Mr Ross (Invercorgill), Mr Eyre (Wellington), Rev. J. A. Torrance (South Dancdin), Rev. Rvley (Port Chalmers), Mr A. J. Bennett (Wellington), Mrs Houl (Kaikoura), Mrs Bennett (Wellington), Mr W. Piekard (Nelson), aud Mr H. Hockton (Wellington). It wa3 resolved — " That the proposed Alliance" be called the New Zealand Alliance for the Promotion of Temperance and tho Suppression of the Liquor Traffic." " That the said Alliance consist of all persons favorable to the above object who shall give m their names and pay an annual subscription of not less than 6s per annum and all members of affiliated societies." "That any society may affiliate by paying the sum of 20s per annum and an additional 203 for every extra delegate sent to the annual meeting." " That an annual meeting of delegates bo held, each affiliated Society being entitled to elect a delegate for each guinea contributed to tho the funds of the Alliance, provided that mno cose shall tliore bo moro than one delegate for each 100 members or fractional part thereof, and that tho meeting elect a President and Governing Board. ' " That the foregoing resolutions bo forwarded to every known teroperanco organisation m New Zealand, and that they be requested to elect delegates to meet m Wellington on or about the 25th January next to formally inaugurate the Alliance." A preliminary executive was appointed to mako the necescary arrangements for that meeting. Tho Chairman (Mr Harding) announced his intention of paying the whole of tho oxpensea of tho present Congress. Tho Congress then terminated.
