The rate of interest is fixed at 3 P« cent, and the minimum has beeu fixed at 05i. In the House of Commons to-day the Hon F. Stanley, Secretary of State for the Colonies, stated that an Imperial or Colonial Protectorate would be established over Bechmnaland, but that Her Majesty's Government is at present undecided which to adopt. Mr Anthony Hardern'a application for concessions for the construction of a line of railway from Biderly is deferred, pending the receipt of the surveyor's report. It is considered likely that Mr John Waddington will obtain the capital necessary for the construction of a railway from York to Geraldton, m Western Australia.
