TIMABU SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Timaru School Committee was held m the Board Boom, Main School, last evening. MBMBEBS FBESBNT. Messrs J. Bruce (Chairman), Hill, Jcmes, Bundesen, Ingram and the Eev. W. Gillies. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous ordinary meeting were read and confirmed. COBBBSPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows : — From Mr W. Suckling, a9 agent for Messrs Suckling Bros., offering to supply school ink at the prices quoted. From Mr Wagstafr, m reference to supplying books and stationery to the school. From Miss Gooder, second mistress at the Main School, tendering her resignation. It was resolved on the motion of the Bey. W. Gillies, seconded by Mr Jackson — "That this Committee regret the cause requiring Miss Goodor to resign at present, and that the resignation be forwarded to the Board with a recommendation that it be accepted." From the Secretary to the Education Board m reference to damages to the Side School. The Committee were of opinion that the Side School would always be liable to be damaged until a master's house was erected there, or somebody appointed to live on the premises to look after the school. From the Head Master, giving the number of children on the rolls, and forwarding a list of scholars m irregular attendance. MISCELLANEOUS. Moved by Mr Jackson, seconded by Mr Jones, and carried — " That the list of names supplied by the Head Master as neglecting to attend school be handed over to the Inspector of Police to deal with." It was decided, on the motion of Mr Jackson, seconded by Mr Jones — "That no scholars be allowed to change from school to school without first applying to the Head Master, who will forward the application to the Committee." visitors' eepoet. The Visitors reported that some improvements were required to the grounds at the Side School. They recommended that the Borough Council be asked to complete their improvements to the Main School grounds, and that the Board be applied to for certain repairs, &c., necessary to the Main School. The report was unanimously adopted, and the following resolutions passed on it : — " That the report of the Visitors for the month be adopted, and that the Chairman be authorised to have the improvements named carried out at the Side and Main Schools " "That the Secretary write to the Borough Council asking them to allow their day laborers to complete the formation of the footpaths, <fee, as recommended by the Visitors." "That application be made to the Board to have the desks cleaned and the frosting taken off the windows, the ivalls of the rooms distempered, and also fresh blinds supplied, which the Committee request should be Venetians, as m the schools where they have been supplied by the Board they have been found of great advantage." Messrs Jones and Hill were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £11 11s were passed for payment, and the Committee then adjourned.
