General Gordon's Diaht. — The first five volumes of General Gordon's diary, from September 10, when Colonel Stewart left Khartoum, to November 5, where the sixth volume begins, have arrived m London. At the end of tho first volume General Gordon says that his sister is to have the diaries. He also states that if they are printed they should be carefully pruned. Trade Between England and Russia . —The Russian paper, the St. Petersburg GazeiU, regrets the diminution of Russian trade, with England, while the imports of English goods into Russia show little or no falling off. It says, that m 1883 there was imported from Eussia into Ensland the following articles :— Wheat, flax, hemp, tallow and wood, to the value of nearly 13 millions sterling, whilst m 1884 the amount had decreased to eight millions, or a reduction of 40 per cent. With regard to English prod uctions more than five million pounds worth had been imported into Eussia m 1883, and m the following year the totals showed a decrease of only one-third per cent. The conclusion to which the St. Peterslurg Gazette comes is that Russia's protective duties have failed to check the importation of English goods into the empire.
