Timaru Herald Office, Saturday Evening. AUCTIONEERS' REPOBTS. Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the paßt week as follows, viz. :— Horses — At their yards to-day a full entry of horses was received for sale. A large portion consisted of first-class draughts, the remainder comprising medium sorts and hacks. They report the local demand as being dull, but for export trade a considerable enquiry existed, and a good number wore purchased for the Sydney market. A total of 30 head wero disposed of. Good draughts brought from .£lB to .£25 10s. A nice lot of unbroken colts and fillies wore sold privately m one line at a satisfactory price. Medium sorts changed bands at from <£14 to J2lB, hacks from =£5 to £12. Sheep— At their "Washdykc Free Yards last Tuesday a full ontry of store sheep were penned for sale, and a good business was done. They sold 200 shorn half-bred lambs at 63 Id, 100 crossbred ewes at from 0s (Jd to 9s 3d, 200 2-tooth crossbred ewes from 7s 8d to lla, 300 half-bred ewes at Cs 9d, and privately they sold at good value 1000 merino owes. Fat sheep — Present values are about 13d per lb. Earns — A considerable number have changed hands at from 1 to 3 guineas. Cattle — The demand for store cattle is dull, and they are difficult to sell. A nioe lot of 16 head of well-forward steers and heifers wore sold at the last Washdyke aalo at .£3 103, cows at from ,£2 7s Gd to .£3 10a. Fat cattle at present are cheap, abonfc 15s per 1001 b being their value. Property — In the matter of the estate of the late Jacob E. Capps, they sold a farm situate m the Totara Valley, comprising 263 acres at auction to-day at a price equal to a littlo over per acre, the purchaser being Mr W. B. Howell. Messrs Jonas and Bourn report for the past week as follows : — A fair amount of business i 3 doing m all lines. Their various auction sales have been •well attended both by buyers and sellers, and have m all cases resulted m satisfactory clearances. Their regular fortnightly sales at the Washdyke Free Yards are steadily increasing m importance, showing that the accommodation and facilities afforded by them for the disposal of all kinds of stock meet the requirements of the district. They report the sale by auction there of 90 crossbred ewes at 7s 10d, 415 at 10s 6d, 60 at 11s, 121 at 11s, 233 at 11s, 28 at 11s 6d and 120 fat at 12s, 23C lambs at 6s lOd, 203 at 7s Id, 99 at 7s 6d and 82 culls at 3a lOd, 600 merino ewes at 6s 6d and 591 at from 2s to 3s 2d for boiling down ; 50 merino wethers sold at 7s. They also disposed of 7 long-wool rams at from 1 to 2 guineas each. In cattle they sold 1 fat cow at £1 10s, 3 fat heifers at =£6 2s 6d, 3 at .£6, and 2 fat steers at £0 ss, 29 forward steers and heifers at up to ,£4 2s 6d, 15 cows m milk and to calve at up to .£5. They offered and sold 79 pigs, viz., 8 at 83, 8 at 9s 9d, 6 at 10s, 6 at 11s, 23 at 12s 6d, 14 at 16s, 3 at 20s, 3 at 255, 7 at 30s, 1 breeding sow at 56s and 1 at 70s. Privately they have sold a small mob of Lincoln-Leicester rams at 2i- guineas, 1000 merino ewes at 6s 6d, 250 half-bred ewes at 11s and 600 erossbreds at 8s 9d, besides smaller lots. Skins, &c. — A lot of good skins were offered at their last sale, but buyers were shy, and prices weaker. They sold merinos at up to 4s, erossbreds 3s 6d, lambs 2s 9d and pelts from Is to 2s 3d ; bags of fleece wool at 6^* dead wool sd.
