MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Mount Feel Road Board was held m tho Boad Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday, tho 17th inst. MEMBERS PRESENT. The Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs C. G. Tripp, G. J. Dennistoun, and A. Hawdon. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was read and considered:— From the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch, informing the Board that the reserves applied for by letter of 10th March, 1884', had been vested m the Board by proclamation m the Gazette, No. 127, 1883.

The Clerk was directed to reply stating that there has been some misapprehension, as the reserves mentioned are those applied for by letter of 27th October, 1883 ; the Board would wish to know what has beon done m reference to the application contained m their letter of sth January, 1885.

From the Crown Lands .Office, Christchurch, forwarding a statutory form of declaration to be signed by the Chairman of tho Board under the Forest Trees Planting Act, m reference to tho Board's application for a grant of land on the Opihi Eiver near Fairlio Creek.

The declaration was signed and attested as required, and ordered to be forwarded to fcho Commissioner of Crown Lands.

From the General Crown Lands Office, Wellington, forwarding a copy of tho Gazette containing an Order-in-Council vesting Reserve 1859 m the Mount Peol Road Board, m trust for plantation purposes. From the Registrar-General, enclosing forms to bo fitted up showing tho receipts and expenditure of the Board for the year ended 31st March, 1885.

From Mr T. Blair, requesting an cxteusion of time to complete his contract of breaking metal. — The request was granted.

The Clerk submitted the accounts of the Board for tho past year duly attested by the Provincial District Auditor as correct.

The Clerk stated that no reply had been received from, the Timaru Herald m reference to a mistake m the advertisement re alteration of roads, but that the error had beon rectified. MISCELLANEOUS. Resolved — " That m all future contracts the following clauses be inserted m tho general conditions of contracts : — (I) That contractors are not allowed to keep dogs m their camps ; (2) that they aro bound to pay for uny damage to fence 3 or tiny adjoining property, the amount of such damage to be valued by tho Board's Overseer, and deducted from any money due to the contractor."

Resolved — " That the election of members to fill the vacancies on the Board caused by the retiring members bo held on Thursday the 7th May, the nominations of candidates to close on Ist May, and that the annual meeting of ratepayers be held on Wednesday tho 6th May." The meeting then terminated.
