RACE FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP. BEACH AGAIN WINS EASILY. (Per Electric Telegraph —Copyright.) [By Cable — Reuter's Agency.] [Received 7.55 p.m., Maroh 28th. J Sydney, March 28. The sculling match between William Beach and Edward Hanlan, for £500 aside and the championship of the world, took place to-day over the usual course on the Parramatta" river. The morning was dull, with a light rain falling, but towards the afternoon the weather cleared, and on starting it was fine, and the water smooth. Every point of vantage was thronged with eager spectators, and the Bteamers were crowded to their utmost capacity, and the greatest interest was manifested by the immense assemblage. Both men were m splendid condition. Hanlan rowed m his new " Ruddick." Both men got well away, and for the first mile the pace was terrific, both men being well togethor. Then Beach gradually but surely drew ahead until he was half a boat's length m front of Hanlan. From that out the New South Welshman increased his lead, and at Putney had a length to the good. The Canadian was then m difficulties, but Beach was still fresh, and was pulling strong. Passing Gladesville it was patent to all that the race was virtually over. Beach won as he liked, and came m six lengths ahead of his opponent, amidst a perfect storm of shouts and the most intense excitement. Time — 23min 45sec.
