(By Telegraph.) WELLINGTON JOCKEY CLUB RACES. Wellington, Fob. 4. The first day's racing under the auspices of the Wellington Jockey Club was held at Island Bay to-day. The weather was very fine, and the attendance good. The racing was (i rat-class. Great interest was centred m the Cup, but the knowing ones were ou6 for once, the winner turning up m Mr Tancred's Administrator, who went to the post with 10 to 1 against him. The following are the results : — Kilbabnie Stakes, a handicap of 60 tors ; three-quarters of a mile. Mr D. O'Brien's Rubina, 9st (Derritt) 1 Mr P. Butler's Talebearer, 7st 91b (Williams) 2 Mr T. Hill's The Slave, 8»t 21b (Vaile) 3 Minerva Bst 121 b, Haloigh Bs t 81b, Marion 7st 51b, Okato 6st 71b, and Dynamite 6st, also ran. Rubina won by a head from Talebearer. The judge placed 81avc third, but the general opinion on the course was that Marion was entitled to that position. Even tlie owner and* jockey of Slave admit this. Time— lmin 17sec. Dividend, lawn, £3 13s ; flat £3 Is. Handicap Hubdlb Rack, of 60 sots ; two miles. Mr Jenning'a Secretary, 9at 101 b (Parson) 1 Mr Weston's Linwood, 103t 71b (Sheehan) 2 Mr Proflltt's Macaroni, list 21b (Rae) 3 Crabbage, Shamrock, Speculation and J Ingomar also ran. Won by two lengths. Dividend, inside £11 12s, outside £17 18s. Time— 4min lOsecs. Wellington Gold Cup of 500 soys, with a piece of plate, value 200 sots ; second horse to receive 50 *ovs and the third 25 soys from the stakes ; one tnile and threequarters. Mr P. F. Tancred's Administrator, syrs, 7stl3lb (Vaile) 1 Mr J. Pilbrow's Sou-wester, syrs, Bst 51b ... (Clifford) 2 Hon. G. McLean's Lady Evelyn, 3yrs, 7st3lb (Sharp) 3 Black Rose Bst 21b, Fusilier 7st 91b, Ugly Buck 7st 81b, Tigredia 7st 61b, Armorer 7st 31b. and Gaiters 6st 71b also ran. The betting was 2 to 1 against Tigredia, 8 to 1 against Black Rose and Sou-wester, 7 to 1 against Fußilier and Lady Evelyn, 10 to 1 against Ugly Buck and Administrator, 20 to 1 against Gaiters and Armorer. After a couple of false starts the horaes were sent away to aby no means good start, Administrator having all the best of it and Ugly Buck the worst. Vaile made the best use of his advantage, and soon had a couple of lengths' lead, with Block Rose and the others all m a cluster. Clifford rode a most resolute race, but could never get on level terms with Administrator, who had led from the start, and he was landed a winner by a short head, Lady Evelyn a good third, half a length m the rear of Sou-wester. Time — 3rain lOJsecs. Dividend, lawn (£2 shares) £19 15s ; outside £9 15s. The win must have been a good one tor the bookmakers, as both Black Rose and Tigredia had been heavily backed to win, and hare also been taken m nearly every double booked for the Gold Ci'p with the Wellington and Dunedin Cups, Te Abo Plath Handicap of 150 »vs ; one mile and a quart*"-. Rubina won by a head, with a bit m hand, Minerva three lengths behind. Time — 2min lOsec. Dividend, lawn, £2 10s ; ' flat £2 12s. £5300 was put through the totalisator 1 during the day. Wellington, Feb. 5. The weather for the races to-day was showery, and tho attendance was not so good as on the previous day. Tho following are the results : — Newtown Stakes Handicap, of 60 soys; three quarters of a mile. Mr Stead's Marion 1 Mr Butler's Talebearer ... 2 Mr Browne's Bully 3 Three others started. The race was a good one, and was won by Marion by three-quarters of a length. Island Bat Pabk Stakes Handicap, of 120 soys ; one mile. Mr D. O'Brien's Rubina ... ... ... 1 Mr Hill's Pasha 2 Mr Redwood's Clogs 3 Putaugitangi and Minerva also ran. Rubina won by a length after a very hard race. Hcbdle Racb Handicap, of 80 bovb ; two miles and a half. Mr Weston's Linwood 1 Mr Donald's Shamrock 2 Mr Hill's Ingomar... ... ... ... 8 Three others ran. Linwood won easily. Wbllington Jockey Club Handicap, of--200 soys; second horeo to receive 30 eovs from the stakes ; one mile and a half. Captain Russell's Tigredia 1 Mr Tano red's Administrator 2 Mr Pilbrow's Ugly Buck 3 Tasman and Lady Evelyn also ran. Tigredia won a big race by a length. Administrator ran a game horse foe second money. Licensed Victuallers' Plate, of 60 soys ;. one mile and a distance. Mr Browne's Rally 1 Mr Hill's Slave ' ... 2 Mr Eaton's Te Whiti 3 A good race, Rally winning by a length. Consolation Stakes, of 50 soya ; one mile. Mr Hill's Pasha ... 1 Mr O'Brien's Gaiters 2 The pair raced side by side till entering the straight, when Pasha came away and won easily. Wellington, Feb. 6. Tho first day's races of the above Racing Club were held on the Hutt course to-day. The weather was very fine, and over 5000 people were present. The following are the results: — Flying . Hubdlb Handicap, of 60 bots ; about two miles and a half. Mr Gentry's Jim 1 Mr Profit's Macaroni 2 Mr Weston's Lynwood 3 The Hock Race was won by Hallicore,- who beat two others. Wellington Cup, of 400 soys ; second horse to receive 25 soys from the stakes ; two miles. Mr D.
