MAKIKIHI ANNUAL MEETING.
The fifth annual race meeting of the Makdlihi Bacing Club was held on Monday last. The weather was beautiful, and the attendance of -visitors good. The course was laid off m a paddock belonging to Mr N. Qoinn, and the Club desire to express their thank* to him for so kindly placing the land at their disposal. Messrs Mason and Roberts had a totalisator on the ground, and succeeded m putting a good round sum through it during the day. The following are the results of the various events : — HANDICAP HUBDIES. Messrs Hobbs* Moody, list 1 Mr Jefferson's Ormidale, list 2 Black Doctor, 12st, was scratched. This was a Tery hollow affair, only two horses coming to the post. Ormidale baulked at the first hurdle and was never m the race afterwards, almost leaving Moody to walk over. District Hack Hubbt.b Race. Mr C. Slee's Kare&rea (Owner) ■/ Mr C. Joyce's Waverley ... (Owner) 2 Mr J. B. Brown's Billy ... (Hobbs) "b Mr W. Middleton's Saracen and Mr Bugler's May Queen also started. All the horses got away together and took the hurdles well, not one of them baulking. Tho finish was very close, Kare&rea only winning by half a length. Makikihi Cot Handicap. Mokarakurs, 9st 21b (Derritt) 1 Bcaltheen, Bst 41b (Burgess) 2 Jackdaw, 7st 121 b ... (BUckmore) 3 lonic, Bat 101 b, wss scratched. This was reckoned by everybody to be as good a race as could be witnessed, the horses Seeping almost together from start to finuh. The race was only won by about half a head. This was attributed to the good horsemanship of Derritt. District Matdbn Piatb (w.f.a.). Mr M. Studholme's Viking, 3yrs, 8«t (Derritt) 1 Mr J. Merry's Wildflower, 3yra, 7st 111 b (Johnston) 2 Mr M. O'Brien's Calanonte, 6yrs, 9st (Clarke) S Kanaka, Waverley, Tommy, and LittU Suter, also ran. After a little difficulty the Starter managed to get the lot away well together, but three of them, viz., Woverley, Little Sister and Tommy were soon out of the race. Aftei making the first turn coming into the straight Warerley and Little Sister bolted over the terrace, ond Tommy, after passing the ludge'i box the first time, made for the township foi his owner's stable. Viking won easily. A h»Td struggle resulted between, the other twe for the otherplacei. Hack Sbixino Back. Mr J. B. Brown's Sluggard ... (Hobbs) 1 Mr J. Euan's Maid of Krin (Blackmore) 5 Mr C. Slee's Auditor ... (Owner) I Mr W. Baker's Hilton ... (Owner) ( This was a capital race, and was only wot from the Maid by half a length, Audito: about a length behind. The winner was sole by Mr Bickman for 13 sove. Pubmcass' Handicap. Tongoriro, Bst (Blackmore) : Pirate, Bstßlb (Beeves) ! BHirtrader, Bst 101 b ... (Derritt) i Scaltheen wae scratched. This race was also well contested, and wa very exciting. It was won by a neck, witl Fortrader about a length behind Pirate. FABM3B«' Bid. Mr Dooley's Spofforth ... (C. Hobbs) Mr J. B.
