GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.

The usual fortnightly meeting was held on Wednesday the 19th day of November, 1884, m tho Town Board office. MBJIBBBS PBBSEXT. Messrs B. H. Pearpoint (Chairman), W. S. Maslin, John Muudcll, Thomas Farrell, Robert Taylor, N. Dunlop, and John Huffey. HINtTTBS. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. COBRESFONDBjrCE. The outward correspondence was read as follows :— To Mr Geo. Ward, giving him notice to complete his contract mono week. To Mr Hamersley, with reference to the award of the arbitrator. The inward correspondence was — From Mr Amos Sherratt, asking to have kerbing put down m front of his premises. Kesolved— " That the Clerk reply that the application is granted, on condition that the applicant pay one half tho cost of same, and the work be done under the supervision of the Overseer." From Mr Maslin, asking to have tho footpath kerbed m front of his auction room and premises. Eesolved — "That the application be granted on the Bamo terms as Mr A. Sherratt'o." Besolved — " That the Clerk also inform Mr Gibson of the same conditions for putting down kerbing." I From Mr W. C. Andrews, with reference to his duties as Inspector of Nuisances to the Geraldine Bond Board, as that Board had repudiated his account from the 19th June, the date of tho proclamation of the Town District. Proposed by Mr Farrell, seconded by Mr Dunlop aad carried — " That as this Board have not engaged Mr Andrews as Inspector of Nuisance^ his application for salary from tho 19th June last cannot be entertained." From Mr Powell, enclosing an offer to make a cupboard and pigeon-holes. Mr Maslin proposed — "That tenders be called for a suitable cupboard with pigeonholes for the Board's use. — Carried. WORKS. Tho Works Committee reported upon the cemetery road, and advised that tho whole of the roud bo ploughed up and reformed from Huffey's corner to tho bridgo near Wliittaker's. In re Mundell's culvert, the Committee recommended that a new culvert bo constructed of concrete, 2i feet m diameter, the present culvert being too email. They also recommended that chairs be obtained for tho Board room. In regard to tho Cemetery road it was resolved — " That the report bo referred back to tho Committee to make other suggestions." Besolved — "That the suggestion of the Committee re culvert near Mundell's be adopted." Resolved — " That tho Works Commit le obtain chairs, two lamps, kerosene, candlesticks and ink-stands, for tho use of the Board." Heaolvcd — "That the Works Committee, witli tho Overseer, sco to the raising of the grating at tho junction of Tolbot street and High street." TENDERS. The following tenders wore opened and considered :— No. 6 Contract — Picking stones off • Main road— Fly and Gaiger, £26 j Thos. Mooro, £20 j Pat Faull, £19 14s (informal, no doposit); T. Grindell, £17 j T.Addis, £16 (informal, not sufficient deposit) j Henry Newport, £15 17fl 6d j Arthur Coles, £14 (accepted). No. 7 Contract — Mcllraith's to Kirby's — James Beckley, £47 18s j J. T. Ward, £47 6s ; D. Grcgon, £47 ; Geo. Ward, £43 13a 4d ; A. Coles, £39, Lewis and Co., £31 17s lid (accepted). No. 8 Contract — Alterations m tho specifications necessitated fresh tenders to be invited. No. 9 Contract — Re-forming Wilson and other streets— J. T. Ward, £33 17a 6d , D. Grcgon, £31 14s j James Beckley £30 (accepted) . OVBBSBEB'B BEroBT. Tho Overseer's roport was read and connidored, and the following resolutions passo'l thereon:— (l) "That tho Chairman enquire into tho matter about obtaining a roadway into the riverbed near Mr Howard's." (2) "That the penalty bo inilictod iv Mr Ward's Ifo. 1 contract."

c Proposed by Mr Maslin, seconded by M Farrell and carried — " That the Clerk writ 1 to Mr Stevens re creek ; to Mr Kelman am 8 Essery's agent, and Mr Morrison re fence; 3 overhanging roads." MISCELLANEOUS. '■ Resolved — " That the matter of impound ing cattle straying on roads within the Towi £ Board district be loft with the Works Com. mittee to arrange with someone to impound J and proßOcuto all offenders." 1 Resolved — "That hawkers and pedlars > licenses expiro on the 31st December m eacl r year." Mr Maslin proposed, Mr Huffey seconded and it was carried — " That the Finance Com. mittee interview the Road Board and accept • the sum of £1753, with interest from date oi proclamation of Town District to date of payment, and purchase the gravel reserve near ■ Pratt's, giving the Board an assurance that the Town Board will not require any othci , reserve within tho Road Board District, and also to arrange with the Road Board about the Pound." The Chairman stated that Mr Geo. Ward had sued him for £1 7s, his deposits on No. 2 and No. 3 contracts. Rcsolvod — " That the amount of 7s, with costs ss, bo paid into Court, and the Chairman defend tho action." Tho Chairman stated that he had engaged on office for the use of tho Board. This terminated tho proceedings.
