He expressed himsolf Btrougly, m favor of the western route of railway, and declared hie intention to continue fighting under Sir Greo, Qrey'a banner. He would not assist to turn i out tbe present Government, however, simply , to please Canterbury. [ Chbistchtjbch, June 3. Mr Montgomery, Mr O'Callaghan and Ml Holmes left for Wellington t o-night. Ashbpbton, June 3. Mr Purnell has retired from the contest for the Ashburtou seat, and Sir Julius Vogol and Mr Wason will be tho candidates for the [ vacancy. The reason for the retirement is [ that many who promised Mr Purnell baforo Bir Julius Yogel was asked, now wish to help tho return of the latter. Sir Julius Vogol epeaks here early next week. DtTHBDIN, June 8. Mr Jamce Green reeoivod a vote of thanks ' at Waikouaiti last night. Ho was auhjeoted to a good deal of noisy interruption during his explanation of hi« action on the Laud ■ Board. He will tupport tho Government as 1 against tha present Opposition, and is opposed to a dissolution. Mr Brown received a vote of confidence at Waipari.
