EARTHQUAKE SHOOK.
A flight shock of earthquake wns felt m Timaru a few minuted before oue o'clock yosterday. According to the telogruma which wo publish below, it has been felt m many other parts of the colony. (By Teleouapu.) Westpobt, Dec. 18. An exceptionally strong shook of earthquake wai felt here at thirteen minutes to one this afternoon. Hokitika, Deo. 18. A distinct earthquake shock was felt hero at ten minutes to ono to-day. The oscillation and subsequent tremors lasted nine seconds. The direction apparently was north-east to south-west. GBEYirouTii, Dec. 18. An earthquake shook was felt here shortly before one to-day. It rattled glasses and light articles, but was felt only by those not m motion. Its direction was oast aud west, apparently. Stodholme Junction, Dec. 18. A distinct shock of earthquake, lasting fully three seconds, was felt here about 12.45 p.m. to-day. Dtjnedin, Dec. 18. A smart shock of earthquake from north to south was felt at Queenatown to-day. It lasted two and a half minutes. Latek. Various telegrams confirming the earthquake felt to-day show that it was noticed throughout the interior of Otago, where it was very severe. Balolutha, Dec. 18. A pretty severe shock of earthquake wns felt here at 12.45 p.m. INVERCAU3ILI, Dec. 18. A very severe shock of earthquake occurred nt 12.45 pro. to-day, It lasted two minutes. The direction was apparently east to west and vibrations were experienced sit two distinct intervals. The articles m tho Bhops were swayed about m an alarming manner, but so far as is known, no damage was done The weather is overcast and threatening rain. Bltjfi', Dec. 18. A smart shock of earthquake was felt here at 12.50 o'clock to-riay.
