THE SITUATION IN EGYPT.
[Per Electric Telegraph— Copvwoht.] [Reuter's Agency.] [Received 11 a.m., Dec. 16th. j Cairo, Dec. 14. A telegram has been received from the Governor of Dongola, announcing that ba has received authentic information that Hicks Pasha was not killed at the time his army was annihilated by the rebel Arabs, but succeeded iu escaping, and is now at Birket. Later intelligence from Soudan states that dissensions bare occurred among the tribes who were leagued together under El Mahdi, and that they are now returning to their former isolated condition. [Special to Pbess As3ooiatioi?.J London, Dec. 13. The latest news from the Soudan states that messengers have arrived at Khartoum reporting that the false prophet, El Mahdi, is encountering great difficulty in organising further attacks, owing to his heavy losses in recent engagements.
