DISTRICT FRIZE FIRING.
The firing for the district carbine prizes by members of the C Battery of Artillery came off on tbo Battery's range, Otipua Greet, on Friday morning last. The ranges were 200, 400 and 600 yards, seven shots at each range, regulation targets und positions. The men assembled at tho drillshed about 6 a.m., and inarched to tho range, tho whole party being under the commanding oflicer, Captain Homersley. The weather was hardly favorable for good shooting, the sun being very bright, and a strong wind blowing from tho S.E. Gunner Godfrey Ellis' acoro is, however, a really flno one, and lie stands a good chance of taking one of the prizes — if not the first. With the exception of Gunner Alfred Allen the others did not show up well. The following are particulars of the firing :— 200 400 500 yds. yds. yds. Tl.
