Mr Alphous Hayes reports m building material — Timber: rod and white pino from 11s per 100 f t; block pine and totara, from 14s to 18s ; flooring and rusticated boards, from 14a ; and lining, from 12j Gd. Mr David Stuart, shipping ngent, reports intercolonial and coastwise rates of freights have not experieaced tho decline generally looked for on tho termination of tho winter mouths, and suitable vessels find no difficulty m effecting charters at current rates.which are as follow: — To Auckland, 15s; Sydney, 14s to 15s; Melbourne, 15s; Adelaide, 16s Bd. From Newoastlo, 14s to las ; Greymouth, 15s to ltJs; Westport, 14s. Timber freights:— From tho North Island, 3s 9d : Sounds, 3s 6d ■ South, 3s 3d.
