News has been received that hostilities have been resumed between the French troops and an Anamite force known as " Bhick-fliigs." Accounts to hand state that fighting, lasting for fully eight hours, recently took place at Phoukai. The engagement was a very severe one, and resulted m a loss of 52 to the French. The " Black-flag 3 " are reported to havo lost fully 500 men. Latest intelligence from Canton states that the Europeans m that city are very uneasy m consequence of the violent anti. foreign placards which have been extensively posted there. The totaj quantity of wheat afloat for theUnited Kingdom is 1,700,000 quarters, Australian tallow— Best beef, 40a ; best mutton, 41a. Kauri gum, best selocted transparent, £13 per cwt. Wool sales — At to-day's auction 9200 baleß were offered. There was a firm and active demand.
