The appointment of Dr Barry to the Metropolitan Bishopric of Sydney, New South Wales, has received official confirmation. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone announced that m the course of a recent Note regarding the progress of military and judicial reforms m Egypt, Lord Dufferin reported that the reorganisation of the Egyptian army was now nearly completed. The reconstruction of the civil police force had, however, proved a more difficult matter, and was m a more backward condition. A fair body of Judges had been secured for the administration of justice m the Native Law Courts.
