GERALDINE ROAD BOARD.

The first meeting of the new Board under the Eoad Boards Act 1882 was held m the office on Tuesday, 12th June, 1883. MEMBEB3 PBE9ENT. Messrs Wm. Pottlethwaito, John Kellancl, Wo. Deßenzy, and Wm. Upton Slack. On the motion of Mr Slack, seconded by Mr Deßenzy, Mr William Poetlethwaite wae re-elected Chairman of the Board for the ensuing year. Mr Poatlethwaito thanked the members for the honor conferred upon him. MINUTES. The minutes of the last ordinary and special meetings were read and confirmed. TBNDBB9. The following tenders were opened arid contidered : — No. 59, metalling road oh Downs— Thomas Corkory, £55; F. Dierck, £54 7a 6d (accepted). No. 60, willow stakes — Joseph Lewis, £9 17s6dporlO0; Benjamin Trumper, £5 (accepted). COBBKSFONDRXCB. The following correspondence was read and considered : — From the Chief Surveyor, Chrietchurcb, forwarding a lithographed copy of the map of the township of Arundol for the information of (he Board. The Clerk was instructed to acknowledge the receipt of the same with thanks. From Mr Middlomiss, dated 25th May, informing the Bsard that, from the recent heavy rains, his land was iaundated with water, streams coming where there was no natural wateroourse, thug preventing him from sowing bis wheat, and requesting that a drain be cut on the road to carry the water to the natural outlets. From Mr Flatman, on the subject of Mr Middlemiss' letter, asking the Chairman to authorise the Oversoer to attend to the drain at ooce. Resolved — " That the action of the Chairman and Mr Flat man be approved by the Board." From Mr Joseph flolwell, dated 24th May, asking the Board to place a culvert across the Pleasant Valley road, to take the water off his land. Resolved— "That Mr Kellsnd and the Overseer view the place anil do what is noceasary." From the Property Tax Commissioner, dated sth June, requesting the Clerk to make the following alteration m the Bating 801 l for the district assessment: — No. 562, Manse sections 12250, 12563, 33 acres, £500, the church not being rateable. Beiolved — "That the same ba attended to." From the Ohicf Surveyor, dated 18th May, 1883, forwarding a tracing showing the roads m connection with R.S. 7456, 3605 and 3606. Bosolved— " That the same bo acknowledged with thanks." From Mr Robert Taylor, dated 12th June, drawing the Board's attention to tha imperfect drainago of the sections at the back of hit premises, and requesting the Board to take immediate steps m the matter. From the Clerk of the Licensing Committee, dated 9th June, upon the subject of the drainage of the township. Besolved — "That the Overseer prooeed without delay to drain through Wilson's street towards the unsold portion of tho town sections." From Mr Timothy Sugrue, dated 12th June, asking for an extension of time to complete hia contract on Peckham's road, owing to the recent bad weather. Besolved— " That 21 days' extension be granted." From Mr Joseph Robinson and others, dated 7th June, requesting the Board to widen and gravel that portion of the road leading from Kennedy's corner to Fairfield bush. Besolved — "That the Overseer report upon it." From Mr John Rice and others, asking tho Board to form and gravel that piece of road leading from Captain Temple's hoUBe to the Rhubarb Flat road. Resolved — " That tho Overseer report upon the same." From Mr Bowerbunk, dated 29th May, asking for an extension of time of two months, to complete No. 62 contract m tho bush. Besolved — " That one month's extension bo granted." From Meears Walker and MoDougall, dated 11th Juno, asking the Board to form the road from the limoiiln to the main road. Resolved— "That the Board will try to take steps to make the road." From the Goraldine County Council, forwarding a copy of an Act to be submittod to the present session of Parliament to empower tho Couucil to construct waterworks. From Captain Bailey, dated 11th June, requesting the Board to shinglo the road leading to his gate ; also, re two culverts which require attention. Resolved — '' That the Overseor report upon the culverts, but regret they cannot shingle the road ai requested." From the agent of the- South British Insnranoe Company, dated Ist June, re insurance of Pound, <fee. The same was ordored (o be paid. OVBBSEBB'S BEPOBX. The Overseer's report was read and considered, and the fallowing resolutions passed thereon :— (1) The Overseer's action be approved on Hewson'a road i the other Bide to be formed j (9) The Board approve tho Overseer letting drain to Mr A. Reid, ye Middlemiss' application j (3) Totara street to be continued as soon as the timber is cleared ; (4) The Board sanction A. MoOool'a contract m Beautifnl Valley boing transferred to Mr F. Molloyj (5) Slips near Wigley's and Sullivan's to be attended to, and shingle road on Rhubarb Flat} (6) Gould'e application for a drain to be attended to; (7) Rangitata river-bed road to stand over until after the Mount Peel Road Board meeting; (8) No further extension of time to be granted m Reed's payment ; (9) The Overseer to have the work done near Huffey's ; (10) The Overseer to call for tenders for the delivery of large trees, and bare them anchored m the Orari river-bed.

INTEBVIEW. Mr J. W. Jones waited upon the Board, re a road to bis house. Resolved— •■ That tho Overseer cnll for tenders for Ihe work." ACCOUNTS. Acoounls to the amount of £799 16s 3d were passed for payment. SANITABY. The Inspector of Nuisanceß report was read and the sanitary state of the district was considered good, excepting the township of Geraldino. ADJOURNMENT. Tho Board then adjourned until Tuesday the 10th day of July at 10 a.m.
