We are aware there is a strong prejudice m the minds of some against Southland on tho ground of its climate, and that it won't grow Wheat. All we can say is that it does grow Wheat, and well, and nearly all over, yielding on an average FAR MORE PEB ACEE THAN IN THIS DISTRICT, Only it is advisable not to trust to Spring Sowing, but always put it m m tho Autumn. We have a number of SAMPLES at our Office, grown m various parts, collected by a member of our firm, who has lately been over a largo portion of Southland, and who will be glad to give every information. FOB BOOT CBOPS, OATS AND GRAZING, Southland can compete with any part of New Zealand, and m DAIRY PBODUCE and FATTENING STOCK cannot be surpassed. So that with the facilities afforded by tho railways for sending Stock and Produce m all directions, and the success of the FREEZING PROCESS, enabling Butter, Cheese, &c, to be sent to England. Farmers never need want a Market. The CLIMATE, which formerly was wet and cold, has of late years, as the country has been drained and settled upon, become much drier, and there is no doubt will continue to improve as Cultivation progresses. In Southland, as elsewhere, the good Farmer, who is always well up with the seasons, and sows ground proporly prepared, succeeds ; while tho indifferent Farmer, who is always behindhand, and who only half understands his business fails — and it is from him we hear of the bad climate, harvests failing and crops not ripening. LAND IS LOW IN PRICE IN SOUTHLAND, In comparison with Canterbury, through sparcity of settlement. Until lately large tracts of country wero inaccessible, through want of roads, and other large blocks were held by companies. NOW THERE ABE RAILWAYS IN EVEEY DIRECTION, And Produco can bo got to Market easily and withLittle'Cartage. AND NOW the companies and other large landowners are all anxious to sell at tho same time, consequently there is an immense amount m the market, and it is the BEST TIME TO BUY. Land which, m this District, would fetch £8 and £10 per acre, is to bo had thcro for £3 upwards, often on the Easiest Terms. Districts which two years ago wero almost uninhabited, may now be seen covered with homesteads, and land m all directions under the plough ; and it is only the matter of a few years, when the land, now so cheap, will be as dear as it is here. The SOIL m many parts is quite equal to the rich flats about Waimate. and Temuka. Full particulars can bo obtained at our Office. 6-14 1270 HALL & MEASON. ESTATE OF JAMES HENDEESON, A BANKBUPT.
