The Chairman said Dr Hopg had handed him a note to the effect that he had advised Miss Forbes to remain at home for a .few dsvri, at she was mffering from a severe cold. From Mrs Creamer, caretaker at the side school, resigning her position. On the motion of Mr Howe, seconded by Mr Rowley, it was resolved— " That Mrs Creamer's resignation be accepted, and that a caretaker be advertised for for the side school at £15 per year." From Mr B. Harvey asking for the use of a room m the school, for the purposes of a technical «nd mechanical class. . HKAB MASTER'S BBEOBT. The Head Master's report was received, showing the number of boys on the Register I to be 239, with an overage attendance for May of 188"3. Also enclosing a list of names of irregular attendants. The report referred to th« matter of the inattention of pupil teachers at their studies (previously reported by tho Head Mistress), and to the taking charge of tbe children during the dinner hour. It wat decided, on the motion of Mr Jones, saconded by Mr Bezant— " That the Head Master be instructed to make the. necessary arrangements to keep order in^ the school premises during the dinner hour." Tbe matter of irregular attendance was referred to tbe Sub-Committee previously appointed to consider the question. HBAD maTBBSB'S BEPOBT. The report presented by tho Head MistreßS showed the number of girls on the register to be 237, the average attendance for May being 181.2. Mr Bowley moTed, Mr Jones seconded, and it was carried—" That the Visitors be instructed to sea to the repairs to the chimney m the girls' school." ■ . The Chairman stated that be had instructed tbe Janitor to procure a temporary supply of fuel, to last until the Committee met, and it was now necessary to take steps to keep the fires going m the schools. # It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Howe seconded by Mr Bewant— " That the. fu«l supply for the winter for Main and Bide Schools bs advertised for, and the lowest tender be accepted." • . • • . Mr Howe stated that oomplaint* had been made: to him of writings- having been made m the latrines on tbe giila! side of the school, which he had rerified by personal inspection, m company with the Head Master. He would move— "That the Board of Education , fee requested to have, the gitlt' closet* of Main School painted at once to obliterate the blacklead mirkt, and that, the Janitor be requested to : inform tne> Head Master of any marks which may be made m future with a view to punish offenders." Mr Tennent seconded the motion, and it was carried. A OOMmAIKX. -Mr Solston wrote, complaining of the illtreatment of one of his children at the school by one' of the teachers, who, he stated, had sent word to him that he could be similarly treated if he liked. As he had other children cattsnding the school, he would be glad to have the matter enquired into. The Chairman said they had only one side of the question before them, and it was decided, on the motion of Mr Beriant, seconded by Mr Jones— "That the Visitors to the Main School for the moDth be instructed to enquire into Mr Bolston's com* plaint." • VIBITOBS. Meisrs Gibson and Walcot were appointed Visitors to tbe Main School, and Messrs Jones and Bezzant to the Side School, for the ensuing month. THB TBACHIHO BTA77. It was decided—" That Mr Cuthbrrt be recommended to the Board for appointment as ninth teacher to the Main School, and that Miss Pearson be retained as fourth year pupil teacher till the end of the jear."
