Sib, — In reference to your sub-leader m yesterday morning* paper, I may state that Iho matter of building a public hall has been before the Committee of the Mechanics' Institute at erery monthly meeting, and at the last meeting on 20th May. the following resolution was carried : — "1 hat Messrs Fraser, Jameson, Bhrpherd and Walcot be appointed a Committee to devise a scheme for the erection of a hall on the ground ia the rear of the Institute, and to report at the next meeting of the Committee. 1 ' Tho members of the Institute Committee arj of opinion that a good hall would pay woll, but the difficulty io the way of their building one is, that by Act of ths Legislature, they aro only empowered to borrow £'100. Tho Committee will be happy to consider any feasible tchsme for the furtherance of this object. I may further state that a number of parsons outside the Committee have signified their willingness to take up shares should a company be floated.
