INSPECTION CF DAIBIE3. Tho Chairman said that, m conjunction with the Mayor, arrangements had been mide as to the appointment of an Health Officer anil Inspector of Dairies for the county and borough. A cjse of emergency had occurred which ho considered justified tbe proceeding. S-ima cases of typhoid have been reported a? having been caused by the use of bad milk. DrChilton had been appointed Health Otßcer and he (the Chairman) aaked tha Council lo ratify the appointment. Mr Teschemaler aaid it was hardly fair thit the county should pay fur this appointment, as tbe dairies were kept by people m the borough. Mr Hayes said some ef tho dairies were outside the borough. The matter of appointment of Health Officer was of great importance to both county and borough. The expense when fairly divided would be small. Air Tennant, County Clerk, read the regulations as to dairies recently adoptod by the Borough Council. It was resolved— " That Mr 11. Chilton, M.D., be appointed Health Officer and Inapector of Milk and Dairies for the district of Waimatn ; the salary of Hetlth Officer to be £10 per annum, upon the understinding that tha Borough Council pay half, as agreed upon ; and that the actim of the Chairman re appointment of Health Officer be confirmed." SUBSIDIES TO LIBRARIES. A discussion arose on the question of subsidising ths Waimate and St. Andrews libraries. Mr Tescheroaker cons:dered, under the present circumstances, it was not advisable to al:ow more than 50 per cent as a subsidy. The Waimate Library had been assisted for several years by the Council, and should now ba self-supporting Mr Hayes was m favor of the usual sub■idy being allowed, es it was right to support auch institutions. If the ratepayers did not approve of ths cubsidy they oould easily express their disapproval, and by witbbol iiog subscriptions altogether there would be no subsidy. It w»s resolved — "That the subsidy for the Waimate and St. Andrews libraries ramain as usual, viz , £ for £ on receipts by subscriptions for the year 1882." MI3OEIXAHEOUS. Eejolved — "That the Engineer's recommanda'ions relating to the alteration of rjad at the head of Wco'shed Gully and formation of road through Mr Clissold's property be adopted." " Th'it the Chairman and Clerk b.) empowered to make arrangements with the Bank of Kevr Zealand to obtain money for oxistin" circumstances until rites ba collected."
