MELBOURNE MARKETS.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report under date Melbourne, Wednesday, 16th November, 1881, as follows i— wool.. At our last sales wo submitted a catalogue of 2891 bales, m which wore included two River-inn clips. There was a crowded attendance of the trade, and keen competition for every lot, resulting m the sale of no less than 2112 bales at satisfactory rates, whilst tho offers for the balance — 279 bales— were very dole up to owners' reserves. Light-condi-tioned greasy wools were especially sought after. At our sales to-morrow we offer about 1500 bales, and as there is a brisk feeling m the market, we expect a satisfactory clearKnee. The different sale 3 during the woek have been well attended, and the business transacted has compared favorably with that of the previous week. BHZEPBB3KS. Wo have cleared off a full supply during tho week' of all descriptions. Our sales have been well attended, and there has been good comp«titioa throughout. The bulk of the offerinM have been butchers' slant, and we have Bold a largo quantity at rates as below. "Wo report a good demand for all sorts at quotations:—Lamb skins, Is 4d to 2s 2d each; butchers' skins, up to 6s each ; pelts, up to li 7d each ; dry skins, 2s 3d to 5s each ; station skins (m bales), 4i to 7d per lb. HIDES. A fair supply has come forward during the week, and we have sold them at satisfactory rates. All hides m good condition, free from ears and offal, sell well, tho tanners competing briskly for them. We have placed some fair consignments from Sydney, Dnt the bnlk of the offerings have been Victorian produce We sold a parcel of extra well-conditf.onod and perfectly dry hides at 5Jd. We quote j — Green oz hide*, 17s to 33s each ; green cow hides, 31d to 3|d per lb; calf skins, 3Jd to 4Jd per lb ; New Zealand hides, up to 5d per lb ; kip hides, 3d to Sid per lb ; Victorian salted hides, 3Jd to 4}d per lb ; Victorian (extra heavy), up to per lb. TALLOW. We have sold a fnll supply since the date of our last report. The local bnjfcra hare been competing well at the present level of rates, but owing to no encouragement being given by tho London market, shipper* have purchased sparingly. We quote :— Beef, £28 15a to £29 Jus per ton; mutton, £30 to JS32'per ton; mixed, £20 10s to .£3l 10s per ton; inferior, J222 to £26 10s per ton. Onr usual weekly sale to-day attracted a full attendance of the trade, and brisk-compa. tition was elicited for all the lots submitted. The public offerings of wheat during tho week nave been small, and the limit for prime is about 5a 6d. Flour.— We have no ohange to report. Country parcels can be quoted from .£ll 2s 6d to £11 6s. Wheat. — This remains nt abont last week's level. Prime- is worth up to 5s 6d per bnshel ; medium to good, from 5s Id to 5s 4d ; and inferior to medium, from 4s lOd to ss. Barley remains m good demand. Prime malting is worth up to about 4s 3id, which figure we realised st our iale».to-day. Medium from 3s 6d to 3s lOd. Feeding sorts are worth np to S» sd. Oats. — A strong demand has sprung up for oats. Stout feed is worth from 3a 6d to 3s 8d and up to 3s 9d, and ordinary feed from 3s 3Jd toSs^d. Maite has further advanced, and is now Worth from 5* 3Jd to 5s 4d per bmhel.
