" The works m progress are being satisfactorily carried out. There are at present 'en contracts nn hand, the liabilities for which are £1237. The Otaio river is cutting into the south bank within • short distmce of the road lino, making tbe road dangerous for traffio ; a few chains of fencing should be eroccd. The work set apart for the unemployed at Hakateramoa hai been finished at a cost of £308. Tbe following resolutions were pmod by the Council : — "That the road applied for by Mr G. A, Morris and others be formed." "That the Clerk bo instructed to call for tend-rs for the lease of reserves applied for by Mr F. Slee ; term of lease to be thrse years." • J " That the Engineer be instructed to have formed the road leading from the Hook Valley road to Sherwood, a distance of about fiftysix chains ; to be let to men out of employ* ment." "That the Clerk be imtructed to adverliie for a poundkeeper for tbe Hakateramea pound, and that Mr Bell be required to give tip the pound books to Mr Ttnnant." " That Mr Clement be informed that part of the road referred to was under construction, and that the balance will be formed when the present contract is finished."
