Now Zealand securities to-day advanced by i to 1 per cent, present quotations being as follows : — For 5 per cent 10-40 loan, 104 i ; 5 per cent 1889 loan, 10G ; 4£ per cent 1879-1904 loan, 101. The markets for Australian and New Zealand breadstuff's and Australian tallow are without quotable change. The state of Ireland is causing renewed uneasiness, there having lately been a marked increase of agrarian crime. Reports are now coming to hand daily of outrages committed m various parts of the country. April 2C. The Homeward Australian mails via Suez and Brindisi wore delivered here yesterday. The London Chartered Bank of Australia lias declared a dividend of 2\ per cent for the previous half-year, and carried forward L4OOO to tho reserve fund. Pakis, April 25. Telegrams havo been received from Algeria reporting that the Arabs there are greatly excited over the Btute of the relations between France and Tunis, and are showing a strong warlike fooling. The French Government has given orders for | the immediate despatch of 40,000 troops to Algeria m preparation for any emergency. April 26. Tho discordant relations which have existed fc.r some time past between tlie French and Tunisian Governments have now resulted m open hostilities. Telegrams from Algeria report that a French man-of-war opened a heavy bombardment upon the Island of Tabaka, situated near tho coast of tho western extremity of Tunisian territory completely destroying the town. Tho vessel subsequently lauded a body of troops.
