[Recter's Agency.] Sydney, April 26. The police made a successful raid last night upon a Chinese gambling house. Twenty-ninti Chinamen, who were taking part m the game, were arrested. The investigations of the City Building Surveyor into the construction of the Sydney Town Hall have resulted m fresh disclosures. He has now discovered that the plastering is of very inferior quality," and not m accordance with specifications. The City Council have the matter under comideration, and contemplate instituting legal proceedings against the contractors. Arrived — Union Company's steamship Wakatipu from Wellington. Melbouhne, April 26. The Committee on the awards of the International Exhibition has awarded the Emperor of Germany's special prize to Messrs De Castello and Rowan, of St. Hubert's Vineyard, for Australian wines. There were thirteen competitors for the prize. The Intercolonial Meteorological Conference continues its sittings. It has been decided to arrange for the exchange of weather telegrams between Now Zealand and Australia.
