MARKET REPORTS.

Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows : — The activity which characterised business at the beginning of tho month bids fair to continue till its close. For a long time poet trade has not been either co brisk or so constant as it ha* been since the beginning of March, leading one to indulge m tho pleasnnt hope that we are once more rising on the strong tide of sound prosperity. All his sales hare been remarkably well attended, nnd prices throughout very fair indeed. Horses.— The dullnt-ss which liao ovorenst sales of draught stock for some considerable time past has been pleasantly relieved by his two last sales. At Mr K. F. Scaly's clearing sale at Sherwood on the 13th init. he sold fifteen out of the twenty horses submitted, at an average prico of £29 IGa, tho attendance being very good indeed, nnd competition brisk. At his sale to-day thoro were slightly above the average number of entries, and the result was quite equal to expectations. A largo number of farming imploments were disposed of at exceedingly good prices, also v quantity of harness, ie, at very (air rates. Cattle. — He has no auction sales to report,

the holidays having interfered with his usual fortnightly side at Uic S.C. Yurd.i. Privately he has sold 20 head fat cattlo at £8 10a. 10 at £S lGs, and several milch cons at from £o to £7 ss. Sheep. — Operations havo been almo3t wholly confined to supplying tho requirements of tho trade, and though he has orders for a largo number of cvoss-breds for turnip feeding, tho supply is not at all equal to tho demand. He could also place n large number of merino wethers at a fair price. At auction on tho 13th nnd 20th ho disposed of n number of Lincoln rams at from 33s to '10s, and on tho 13th a small lot of mixed stoics at Bs, 238 fat cross-breds nt 9s 6d. Pigs. — He hns orders for a largo number. Thoso submitted have realised, for wcaners, 8s to 9s ; small stores, lls. Wool and Skins. — On Wednesday last ho held a sale of wool, skins, fat, Sec, when upwards of 1500 skins, a large numbor of hides, &c, were submitted. Tho attendance was larger than usual, a number of buyers from both north and south beini; attracted by the heavy catalogue. As the season advances, the prices to bo obtained for skins will of course increase, but considering tho growth of wool, tho prices at this sale compare very favorably with any that hns been held m Canterbury this •va.non. He quotes: Butchers' merinos, 2s 8a to 3s ; medium, 2s to 2s Cd ; others, Is to Is 9d ; cross-bred skins, best, 5s to 5s Gd ; medium, 2s 6d to 3s fid ; inferior, Is to Is Gd. Hides, 4d to 4id. Rough fat m bags, lgd to 2d ; butchers', rendered, 2Jd. Town Sales.— On Tuesday, 12th inst., under a writ oififa, he sold the stock-in-trade of a baker and confectioner. On the 19th ho submitted a lot of furniture on the premises m Bank street, nnd on tho 22nd, at his rooms, a very large quantity of household furniture and other effects, all of these sales drawing large attendances, and the prices realised being quite up to the average. On Wednesday he sold, at the risk and expenso of the former purchaser, booths Nos. 1 and 2 for the S.C.J.C. meetinc on the 28th and 29th inst, tlie purchasers on this occasion being for No. 1, Mr Richmond, at £50 ; and for No. 2, Mr Nelson, at £-12. Produce. — His salo rooms to-day were perfectly crowded, and all lots offered found ready purchasers nt prices as under : — Farmers' flour, 12s to 16s per sack ; fowls' corn, 4s 6d to 5s Gd ; cheese, 4d to 5d per Ib ; onions, Id per lb ; potatoes, 43 Gd to 5s Gd ; fowls, 33 to -Is j ducks, 3s 6d to 4s per pair; turVcy3, 4s Gd to 7s each ; also a lot of tea m boxes, nt 18s j sugar, 3id to 4£d, and other groceries at equally good prices. He has to report the sale of the goodwill of Mr A. Ellis' milk- walk with dairy stock and complete plant for carrying on the business, to Messr3 Tubb andTarguse, at a prico equally satisfactory to both tho vendor and the purchasers.
