STOCK REPORTS.

Messrs Maclean and Stewart report for the past week : — Horses. — 39 head of draught and light horses were to-day submitted at anction, the greater number being inferior sorts ; a few of the right kind were easily sold, though at unsll prices. For light and inferior horses there was little demand, and where sales were made prices were not very satisfactory. They quote from £25 to £28 for good heary draughts, from £12 to £18 for medium, and from £8 to £10 for hacks. At the above quotations they -placed a goodly proportion of the entries. At Mamre Farm, Waimate, on Tuesday hist, on account of Mr McCulloch, they offered his entire stock, consisting of over 28 horses, but the demand for tbeae was very dull, and but a few changed hands, the class of horses there offered being seemingly not required m that district. Sheep. — They have sold privately several lines of store sheep at very satisfactory prices indeed, buyers finding a great difficulty to supply their requirements, and are offering extreme rates, lhey quote present values : Stores, merino ewes, 4s 3d to 4s 6d ; wethers, 5s to 6s ; cross-bred ewes, 9s to 10s ; crossbred wethers, 8a to 9s 6d, according to condition ; cross-bred lambs, 8s to 10s. Fat sheep. — They placed a line of hoggets at prices equal to 2d per lb. Cattle. — They have placed several lots at last week's quotation?, Mr McCulloch's lot of dairy cows and heifers bringing fair prices — from £4 5s to £6 10s for the former, and the heifers at from £2 10s to £4 10s ; calves sold at 37s 6d. Fat cattle they have sold at prices equal to 20s per lOOlbs. |

Messrs William Collins and Co. report holding their regular weekly market nnd suction at their rooms (old post office) on Saturday last of farm produce, and general merchandise. The attendance was fully np to the average. There was a good demand, with few exceptions, for all lines submitted. They quote blue Derwent potatoes at 60a per ton, very few coming forward. Reports reach them from most of the growers m South Canterbury of tho crops turning out failures. Christchurch-grown onions are a glut and difficult to quit at 7s to 8s per cwt ; Akaroa cheese, 4d to 5d per lb ; bacon, 6d to 7d per lb j hams, none offering ; oats, good feed, la 6d ; slightly damaged, 4s 6d per bag ; fowl wheat, 5s to 7s per sack ; barley, no demand j fresh butter, 7Jd per lb ; honey, 3d per lb j poultry of all descriptions was m good supply, and demand, at 2s 6d to 3s 6d for fowls ; docks, 4s per pair j turkeys, 3a to 5s each ; Fiji oranges, 9s 6d per case ; box teas, 15s j cake tobacco, 4s per lb ; dried apples, 5d per lb ; sperm candles, Bid per lb. Household furniture and a lot of sundries wore quitted daring the day at owners' instructions.
