BOARD OF EDUCATION.
An adjourned meeting of the South Can. terbury Board o£ Education was held yeaterday. MEMBEBS PBESBHT. Mr H. Belfield (Chairman), Bey. G. Barolay, Messrs W. B. Howell, E. Wakefleld. and 8. W. Goldsmith. TUB TIJ£AEU SCHOOL. A letter was read from the Chairman of the Timaru School Committee enolosing a resolution passed by fire votea to one at a properly oonvened special meeting, as follows ; — " That Miss Forbes baring declined to lend m her resignation as requested, the Board be respectfully requested to dismiss ber, a> the Committee feel convinced that to long ai she occupies her present position the work of the school cannot be carried on m a satisfactory manner." The reasons for this action on the part of the Committee, the letter stated, had already been placed before the Board. The Secretary then read the whole of the correspondence on the subject, and the Boird went into Committee to consider the matter. After some consideration it was deoided to request Miss Forbes, Miss Ball, and the Head Master of the school to attend the meeting of the Board m the afternoon for the purpose of giving evidence on points m dispute. TIMAETJ BIOS SCHOOL. The following resolutions were passed regarding the new oobool at the south end of the town :— Proposed by Mr Wakefleld, and a»conded by Mr Goldsmith—" That the new school m the south of Timaru be a side school under the Timaru School Committee ; that children be admitted to it up to the Third Standard v a provisional arrangement : and that the staff consist of a mistress at a salary of £100 a year, and £20 lodging money, with such atiittauce as may appear necessary." Proposed by Mr Wakefield, and seconded by Mr Goldimith— "That m regard bo incidentals the Timaru side school be considered a separate soIiojI." Proposed by Hr Howell, and seconded by Mr Barolay— •■ That the Chairman and Inspector settle the kind of fence to be ereoted, and call for tenders for the same." TIMABff SOHOOL OOMMITIBB BB HISS FOBBES AMD KISS BALL. The Board, on resuming at 2 o'clock, again went into Committee on this question, and took the evidenco of Mr Scott (Head Master) Mis. Ball, Mr Waloot (Chairman School Oummittse), Bnd Mist Forbes. This occupied a very considerable time, and on the conclusion of Miss Forbes' statement the Board carefully reviewed ths whole matter, and, after considerable discussion, which of course wo aro preoluded from publishing, s resolution was passed which the Secretary was ordered to send to the Sohosl Committee, as well as to Miss Forbes. The Board then adjourned.
