The local companies report that the run. now of the best quality of consumers care little to operate on second brands, the market being supplied from tho South by such grain of all kinds at a decline. £ales of oats have been made from 2s 8d to 2s lid per bushel. A parcel of 1100 sacks of good feed have been sold to arrive at the latter figure. Maize keeps its price of lost week. A Fijian cargo of 2500 sacks is not to hand, and 1000 sacks are en route from California, and a further shipment comes by the next steamer from Sydney, so that 4000 sacks aro afloat for this market. Buyers of maize are operating with caution, small lines changing hands at from 4s 4Jd to 4s 6d for Sydney, and 4s for other kinds. Potatoes are easier, and several lots have been sold at £6 to £6 5s per ton. Fully 6000 sacks »f potatoes are afloat for this port, which may come m any day. Bacon and hams are coming forward more freely from the South, but good cured is tho exception. Timber is on the decline.
