The usual monthly meeting of This Board tw held m the Bead Board's Office, Peel Forest on Friday, 16th inst. MEMBKBS PIIESKNT. The Hon. J. B. A. Acland (Chairman), Messrs Wilson, Tripp, Henoy, and Maokay. MINOTES. The minutps of the previous meeting wore read and conGrmed. TENDEBS. The following tenders were opened and considered : — No. 1 1 Contract — Improving road m Peel Forest, William Smith, £47 ; Matthew Daley, JK39 10s jK. Wnghorn, £35 9s ; George Jenkins, £34 8* ; George O'Lichlen, informal ; James Proudfoot, £17 14s 9d (aoCi'ptid) . No. 13 — Forming near Rainchff, H. Mncpherson, £98 17s 6cl ; Michael O'Brien, £120 j Patrick Eurke, £98 (accepted). COBRESFONDENOE. The following correspondence was read : - From the Under Secretary for Public Works, enclosing form to be (illad up, umler section 13 of the Public Works' Act. The Chairman informed the Board that the returns had been filled up and returned. From the Ashburton County Council forwaniing v copy of a resolution passed by the Council at its last meeting to the effect that no fun her steps will be taken by them towards repairing the Raugitata Traffio Bridge until the Counties' Act be brought into force m the Geraldino County, or until the Road Boards m the County contribute half the cost of the work. From the Chief Surveyor, re Gravel Reserves at Sherwood Dowdb. From Col. Packe, with reference to the a' - teration of roads on the Riinoliff run. From the Chief Surveyor, informing th<» Board that any cuttings made on the Upper Kangitata road will be covered by Roard Re•erve when the adjoining land is surveyed. From the Geruldine Road Board, stating that the Board has deferred the consideration of the grant for the temporary bridge, until the report of the Engineer to the Ashburton County Council has been obtained. From the Steward of Publio Reserves, with reference to the reserve at the Rangitata Bridge. From Mr John Anderson, enclosing an account for a stone crushing machine. From Mr O. W. Tancred, informing Hie Board that he had tendered his resignation as a member of the Timaru Harbor Board. From Mr R. Worthington, stating the terms on which he will allow a road to be taken through section 29954. From the Colonial Secretary, with reference to Public Pounds, stating that under Section 300 of the Counties Act, the management and maintenance of pounds may be undertaken by the county m which they are lituated. The Clerk was instructed to reply, and state that the Mount Peel Board wish to know whether, as it appears to the Board that the Counties Act is not m force m the County of Geraldine, Roid Boards have power to erect and maintaiu Publio Pounds m their districts. The Clerk vas directed to write to the Ashburton County Council and enquire if their Engineer has reported upon the work done by Mr Watkins at the Rangitata Bridge, and the estimated coat of the same, and whether the Council has made any grant to Mr Watkins on account of work done, and to what amount. IHTBBTIEWS. Mr Lorgelly had an interview with the Board m reference to the cutting at the end of the orois road m Peel Forest. The overseer was instructed to meet r I/argelly on the ground, and report upon the work required at the next meeting of the Board. Mr Berridge had an interview with the Board, relative to the piece of land purchased by him at Peel Forest, and laid before the Board a letter from the Commissioner of Crown Lands requesting him to return the licence to ocoupy and accept a refund of the purchase money. He left the licence to occupy m the hands of the Board, together with an account of claim as compensation, on receipt of which he agreed to return to the Government the license to occupy. Resolved— " That the Clerk write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, informing him that 'he licence to occupy section 33178 is left m the hands of the Board and will be returned to the Government upon Mr Berridge receiving the amount or his claim, which the Board think just and reasonable, inasmuch as he has suffered inconvenience and pecuniary loss m consequence of an error made m the Government offices." INBTBUOMOKS TOOPFICBBa. The Clerk was instructed to forward the district map to Mr Morris, and request him to plot it up to date ; also to mark the roads lately surveyed on the Bsincliff rua, as the Board has been put to great inconvenience by the map not having been properly marked up when last m his office. To write to Colonel Packe, informing him that the Board accept of his terms for the diversion of roads on the Riiucliff run, and will at once take the necessary steps under the Publlo Workt Aot for having the roads closed; and to request his permission to proceed with opening up the new roads so as to avoid any unnecessary delay. To write to Mr J. Anderson, asking him to furnish the Board; with full particulars with reference to traction engines. . : . ; . '

Resolved— "That the clerk write to the various Koad Boards m the Geraldine County, stating that t'-ie Mount Peel Bo»rd ts prepnretl to contribute towards the extension of the R-ingiUta Bri <ge, und asking for their views on the matter." BATES. Proposed by Mr Tripp, seconded by Mr Mackay, and carried — " That it is not desirably that any rute should be colli-cted this year, owing to the extreme hard times." ovkrseeb's bepobt. The Ovi-racer's report was real and considered, and it was resolved — " That tenders bo invited for the following works: — (I.) Ploughing gravel reserves. (2.) Fencing gravel reserves. (3.) Ploughing the remaining portion of the reserve at the Road Board Office. (4 ) Forming Talbot's road, Baincliff. (5.) Shingling tho rood to the Kaincliff Bush. (6.) Making cuttings on the Upper Rangitata road." The Overs, er was directed to have a plough furrow drawn on each side of the road reserve on all roads surveyed, but not improved ; also, to have all the big stones along the main road to Peel Forest carted into heaps ready for breaking into metal, and to widen out the sharp bend on the Mount Peel road. PAYMENTS. After passing accounts to the amount of £1408 4s 7d, the Board adjourned till the 21st June.
