LICENSING! COURT.
TIMARU — Tuesday, Sbet. 3. (Before B. Woollcombe, Esq., Chairman, H. Belfield and T. W. Hall, Esqs., Licensing Commissioners.) A sitting of the Licensing Court for the Timaru district was held at 12 o'clock yesterday, m the I'imaru Courthouse. Mr Hamersley, on behalf of Mr A. O. G. Stone, applied for a removal of the license of the Commercial Hotel to tho new hotel now orected on the adjoining section. He said it was hardly a removal at all, as, iv fact, it was only going to the next section to a much larger and more commodious houso. Such n house was very much wanted m the place, and he had no doubt but the one which was within a week or two of being finished would be fitted up m a way that would meet all requirements. The Court held that, as the house was not finished, it, would not ba right to grant the license. If the license were granted the result would be that Mr Stone would have to no into an unfinished house. The caso was accordingly adjourned until the 27th inst. Mr White, on behalf of Mr T. B. Jones, applied for a licence for the new hotel which was m course of erection at the corner of Bernard and North-stlvets. The house would be finished m about a fortnight's time. Tho Chairman said-that a report was before the Court, stating that tho building was not finished, besides other objections. This case wds also adjourned until the 27th inst. The license of the Sportsman's Arms, Saltwat r Creek, wus transferred from Mr James McGimpsey to Mr James Gibson. The license of the Hilverstreum Hotel was transferred from Mr George Stephens to Mr Thomas Winter. The Court then adjourned until the 27th inst.
