[Per Pkess Agency.] Auckland, Sep. 2. A public meeting to-day passed a vote of congratulation to Earl Beaconsfield and the Marquis of Salisbury on the result of tho Berlin Conference. New Plymouth, Sep. 2. A farm owned by Major Stapp at Tikorangi has been sold to Mr Taylor, of Canterbury for £11 10s acre. At the sale of Strathford, a new Government township on the Mountain Road, a number of quarter-acres were sold, one fetching £180. The total amount realised from the sale was £2215. The survey party on the Waimate Plains shifted from Rapokunui to Otakino to-day, where they will work on towards Omuturangi, the furthermost boundary. Te Whiti says that the 17th of March next wilt be the Ateratona, or day of blood, and after that day death himself and his brother at the entering of the gate (Parihaka), evidently referring to the general amne3ty, to take place at a meeting called by Rewi "on the 18th March. At the last meeting he said — "Let surveyors go on this land ; it is still mine. lam going to portion out not only fthe lands of New Zealand but the lands of the world." This, it is stated by those who are his interpreters, means that he ■will advocate the individualisation of the lands.

Christchurcb, Sept. 2. In the Supreme Court to-day, before Judge Johnston and a special jury, the case of Digby v. Digby and another came on for hearing, and was a suit for a divorce, brought by the husband against the wife, on the ground of adultery. The parties were married m Victoria m 1865, and afterwards came to New Zealand. Respondent left her husband m 1876, and joined the Wheatleigh's Dramatic Company, m Australia, under the name of Nelly Daly. The adultery took place m Dunedin with a member of that Company, and was conclusively proved by witnesses examined. There was no appearance of either respondent or corespondent. The jury found for the petitioner without leaving the box, and also found that there was no evidence offered to support the pleas of respondent. The Court made the usual decree. A statement appears m this morning's papers stigmatising the telegram recently published, that the Christchurch football players kicked over a fruit stall m Dunodin as an atrocious libel. The writer says the fact was that several of the Dunedin team started out pretty lively, and ready for any mischief, that they were accompanied by a couple of Christchurch footballers, and that the stall got knocked over by the Dunedin men. The owner was so liberally rewarded that ho would like his stall knocked over every night on the same conditions. Mr George Darrell, with somo newplays, is expected m. Christchurch about March next with an Australian Company. The Charitable Aid Board are about to make arrangements with Miss Fidler for giving a course of lectures on cookery to the elder girls at the Lyttelton Orohanage. The Cheevers Minstrels left for Wellington m the Wakatipu to-day after a splendid fortnight's business here. Designs are called for a four storey hotel, which will be the largest m Christchurch, and which is to be built on the American principle. Wearing, at the Terminus Hotel, is to be the proprietor. Ashbukton, Sept. 2. The first Mayoral election took place to-day, and created considerable excitement. There were two candidates, with the following result : — Thomas Bullock, 111 ; Donald Williamson, 49. Dunedin, Sept. 2. Twenty acres of land m the North East "Valley have been purchased by Captain Baldwin for £9720, being the highest price hitherto paid here for suburban land. A half-yearly meeting of the shareholders m the Standard Insurance Company was held to-day. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and a dividend of 10 per cent declared. The Chairman and other shareholders spoke hopefully of the present and future prospects of the company. The Mayor and railway authorities are besieged for free passes for the opening of the railway from Dunedin to Christchurch, Ordinary free passes will not be available on the occasion of the opening of the railway from Christchurch to Dunedin. All passes will be issued by Mr Conyers, Commissioner of Railways. A special train will convey visitors to Blueskin on Saturday.
