TEMUKA AND GERALDINE AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

The annuul meeting of the members of this Association was held on Tuesday evening last at the Star Hotel. There was a moderate number present. A report of the proceedings of the Society for tho past year was read by the Secretary, and a statement of accounts by.the. Treasurer. The latter showed that all expenses and prizes during the year had been met and paid, leaving a. small balance m hand to the good. The outgoing Committee m tboir report considered that the principal reason** the last flhow was not better attended -was -the' monßter circus appearing at Timaru on the ■ day first settled upon, to hold the show thereby rendering it necessary to pos-tpone it for two days ; and that fche failure of the ram fair (day after the show) was cansed by its clashing with the Saturday's business at Timaru. They also strongly recommend their successors to chuuge the time of the year for holding the show, and suggested the propriety of holding two shows m the year — one about the second week m October, instead .cf au entire parade, making the entiro horse. Bhow n "prominent feature; and the second show m March ; to hold out greater inducements for the show of foals, roots, aud- . grain. They also recommended that the ram fair Bhould be persevered m, as it was likely to lead to a great deal of good m the district. With respect to tho exhibition of foals at the March show, it was thought that the proprietors of entire horses, exhibited at the show m October, would como forward liberally with prizes for the bi st foals by their respective horses, and that muoh good might ensue by encouraging the breeding of good Btock m the district. „ . » Proposed by* Mr Quinn, seconded by.Mr Tavender, and carriea* unanimously — " That the report and balance-sheet be adopted as read."
