MELBOURNE MARKETS.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) report, tinder date, Melbourne, 15th May, 1878, as follows :— The market for breadstuff's is deoidedly easier since the publication of the Government statistics, although we do not apprehend any very material decline m wheat and flour, as stocks m town are light, and a good export demand experienced. WHEAT. Sales at the close of last week were making at 5b 9d to 5s lOd for good to prime qualities, bot since the publication of the Government statistics on Saturday, millers hare evinced less disposition to operate at the above rates. The statistics show an available surplus of about 35,000 tons, of which about 10,000 tons have already been exported. At to-day's sales 5s 7£d was tbe highest price realised for good milling wheat. FLOTTB. The decline m wheat has affected the value of flour. At yesterday's sales the best offer for best country brands was £11 15s. Privately sales have been making at £11 17s 6d to £12 for trade lots. OATS. A very brisk local demand has been experienced for every description during the week and also for export to Adelaide. Sales have been making of Tasmanian feed at 4e 7d to 4s 9d, and for New Zealand feed 5b has been obtained. The market is m bare supply, and the tendency is to higher prices. BABLBY. The statistics show a decrease as compared with the previous year of 154,000 bushels. Good malting has been selling up to 6s 2d, and at this price there is a good demand for really prime plump grain. Feeding qualities are selling at 4s 8d to 4s 9d. MAIZE. Sales have been made at an advance on last week's rates, viz., 4s 7d to 4s 9d. To-day holders are asking 4s lOd to ss, and as the Sydney market has advanced the latter figure w.ll doubtless be obtained before the close of the present week. PE4S Sell readily at 5s to 5s 2d. BEAN AND POLLABD Several large lines of bran have been sold at Is 2Jd to Is 3d for export, and pollard at Is4id. GRASS SEEDS. We have no 'sales of consequence to report this week, and prices for all descriptions of agricultural seeds are merely nominal. t GOVBBKJIBNT STATISTICS. Bushels.
